THE DEEP AND PROFOUND THOUGHTS OF CITIZEN STUART, MANCHESTER BASED LIBERTARIAN, TARGET SHOOTER AND SPACE ENTHUSIAST. EVERYTHING I SAY ON THIS BLOG IS MY OPINION, AND NOT NECESSARILY THAT OF THE LIBERTARIAN PARTY.
If you like good voice artists I've got a treat for you tonight.
I thought I'd start with one of my favourite songs - "Sleeping Satellite" sung by the divine, the angelic, the wonderful Tasmin Archer - arguably Britain's greatest female singer. Actually, there's no argument - she is Britain's greatest female singer. I was going to post the British video of this song, but doing a search on YouTube tonight, I found there's a completely different American version - I had no idea:
In similar vein, here's the classic filk song "Hope Eyrie", written by Leslie Fish and sung by Julia Ecklar. Julia Ecklar's another singer with an outstanding voice - you have to listen to her songs through earphones to really appreciate it. You probably haven't heard of her, she's an American filk singer - "filk" being the music that people perform at science fiction conventions. She's well-known on the scene, but has never gone professional, as far as I know - don't ask me why:
Now for something slightly different to round off the evening's entertainment. This is an amateur music video someone made, setting scenes from the classic Japanese movie "Wings of Honneamise" to the song "Faith of the Heart", sung (I think) by Russell Watson:
... but 20Six crashed - again. Must seriously investigate migrating to a more reliable host. Any bloggers out there got any suggestions? I want something easy to use for a non-techy type, but also reasonably flexible as regards formatting, as I'd like to retain as much of the look of this blog as possible.
In the meantime, here are the music videos I was planning to post on Friday night. I would have done this yesterday (assuming 20Six was working again) but I was down in ****ing London all day, attending the Libertarian Party's first official meeting. Worth the trip, I think, but tiring. So without further ado...
First off, here's "Animal" by Front 242 - Belgium's greatest export and one of my favourite bands. This one's a little atypical of their usual output (although they like to experiment). I don't know the name of the lead singer, but she's not one of the regular lineup:
Next in line are Two Men, a Drum Machine and a Trumpet, who are "Tired of Getting Pushed Around" - but then again, aren't we all?
Finally I'll leave you with the great Ian Gillan, who wants you to "Unchain Your Brain":
All of a sudden, half the blogs I read seem to be putting music videos on Friday nights. It seems like a good idea to me, I spend a significant proportion of my online time searching for music vids on YouTube anyway, so I thought I'd try the same for a while and see how it goes.
Bearing the date in mind, it seemed appropriate to start off with "Gethsemane" sung by Ian Gillan, even though I gave up being a Christian in my teens. Until I found this the other day, I had no idea he was the original guy to play Jesus in "Jesus Christ: Superstar".
Of course this is what I was actually looking for when I found the above - "No Laughing in Heaven", which is one of my favourite Gillan songs:
Here's wishing a happy Easter/Passover/whatever to my several readers.
Pity the report didn't include the actual CCTV footage, that would have been good for a laugh.
I don't claim to be an expert on police procedures, but two cop cars to investigate one citizen who's peacefully going about his business in a rubber alien costume seems a little over the top. On the other hand, if they thought there was a possibility of it being a real eight foot tall alien (and it's good to keep an open mind), then is that the standard number of units they would employ to welcome it to Earth? Is there a standard procedure for alien contact?
